Being in nature is good for your body, mind and soul. Surrounding Granada there are many beautiful and lush settings that allow you to immerse yourself and connect with the land.
There are some exceptional places around the Granada area that are amazing to visit. There are 2 volcanos close by: the first being Volcan Mombacho, a dormant volcano, and besides being a great place to hike, here you can take a coffee plantation tour or have a zip line experience! On the other hand we have Volcan Masaya, which is an active volcano with lava chambers. The Volcan Masaya is a must at night to see the flowing lava.
If going to a crater lake lagoon is more your style, you can take a trip to La Laguna de Apoyo for some swimming, kayaking, and rest and relaxation under the sun. This is a natural lake that was formed in the crater of the Apoyo Volcano. The warm waters and peaceful setting will relax and refresh your mind.
If you have time and especially if it is green season, you should visit Chocoyero/El Brujo Nature preserve in Ticuantepe which is not too far away and can be combined with a trip to the Masaya Market to view all the work by the local artists and craftsmen from different parts of Nicaragua.
Another wonderful place to visit is Ometepe, an island in Lake Nicaragua that was formed from 2 volcanos rising out of the lake. Here, you can hike up Volcan Concepcion or Volcan Maderas, relax at the beach, and walk around the ecological reserve, Charco Verde that is home to an abundance of wildlife.
For those of you that are more adventurous, Cerro Negro in the Leon area is not only great for hiking, but it is as well a place where you can go sand or volcano boarding!
These places are all easily accessible for both long and short term visits while you enjoy your stay with us. Condo Hotel Xalteva would be more than happy to help you plan your perfect hike or trips to these destinations and recommend hikes and other places to visit for your next destination as we want you to see and enjoy all the natural beauty that Nicaragua has to offer.
